Milo Ligons aka "The Bling King"

My name is Milo Ligons aka “The Bling King”. I set by hand Swarovski crystal pave designs on the Nike Air Force One sneaker for Philly (Miami); a boutique shop that sold custom sneakers to musicians, NBA and NFL athletes and a list of celebrities and sneaker collectors alike. The most expensive custom shoe in 2006 was $500 and it was hand-painted. When I collaborated with the Swarovski crystals it allowed the $1000 barrier to be broken and once rising to a whopping $2400 it's never been the same since! I didn't publish any of those shoes because I was young and typically misled /under-paid so no one knew the true artist that I was. Once I sold a few pairs of shoes I went into belt buckles, hats, jeans, sunglasses etc. This was before Ed Hardy took over this particular realm of fashion design. Of course I was ahead of my time, but I also thought I was ‘safe’. That feeling was short lived because crystals became a trend soon after my initiation into the fashion world. I soon realized that I had to reinvent myself so I branched out to the couture shops of Les Petite Puppies, Claudio Milano, Sex & Boutique, Belinda’s Couture, Follies, Mr. R, and many more. I even ‘got into’ interior decor before I settled my heart in the art world where I finally feel free, alive and valued.

I grew up right off of Biscayne Boulevard in an apartment with a single mother near the Miami Design District in the mid 1990's - I remember walking to school as a child and let me tell you it was no walk in the park. I always loved the Art Deco buildings I grew up seeing as a child and all of the colorful things that Miami’s waters and wild life have to offer. Staying inside was not an option for me so I found myself always in and around the ocean instead of the basketball court or the pusher man’s corner. Fishing, snorkeling and fruit picking where more my cups of tea. Nature and soul searching have been the foundation of my growth. Using these tools from a young age has allowed my vision to be broader than many of my peers. Now Art is pouring out of my psyche and manifesting in these paintings that I create using 23K gold leafing, Swarovski crystals, acrylic paint and pen. The focal point is to capture, restore and revive the art deco movement of the roaring 1920's; a time when beauty, riches and opulence along with a new age in technology saw its peek before a war changed America.

My goal is to shed light on people, places and things that have been forgotten but deserve a transfusion or a face lift for the contributions that they made with little to no recognition returned. With a relentless work ethic and a burning desire to make history as one of the greatest artists of our time, I can't see myself anywhere else than with the honor of exhibiting my art and collaborating with Gallery 212 Miami - right where it all began for me - in the bubbling melting pot of Miami's historical art and design districts.
