Knowledge Bennett Gallery announces its collaboration with Gallery 212 Miami during Art Basel Miami. The exhibition Meet the Artists, Meet the Press is presented by Gallery 212 Miami in the Wynwood Art Gallery District at 2407 NW 2nd Ave, Miami, FL and runs through January 31st, 2013.
Alongside an exciting roster of international exhibiting artists, artist/gallery owner Knowledge Bennett premieres his new series of Pop Art paintings entitled, Flaming Star. The paintings are a contemporary interpretation of Andy Warhol’s Elvis and the first in an ongoing series of travelling works by Knowledge Bennett depicting today's Flaming Stars.
Originally exhibited at the Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles in 1963, Elvis was inspired by Warhol’s fascination with Presley's 1960 film Flaming Star, in which the singer-actor played a half-white, half-Native American struggling between two cultures.
Bennett gives Elvis a contemporary facelift by paying homage to his own generation of Flaming Stars. The first set of paintings in the series, features the head of Obama on the body of Elvis. Obama, black on silver, will be installed as a hexatych and consists of six unique 64" x 40" mixed media works on canvas. More works in the series to be released Winter 2013.

Obama Gotcha! Series by Knowledge Bennett
Knowledge Bennett's Gotcha! series is a throwback to Pop Art of the past with a modern message. As Pop Art emerged in the 1950s, influenced by American consumerism and popular culture, artists found humor and irony in print advertisements and television commercials. Advertising firms were busy courting the Baby Boomers and creatives like Donald Draper shaped the nation.
Is it the dawn of a new day in global consumerism? Or, is personal choice still influenced by modern day marketing? Who's Gotcha!?! Knowledge Bennett explores this relationship between pop culture's iconic figures and target marketing. You make the decision.

Knowledge Bennett American artist Knowledge Bennett was born in 1976. Bennett’s current body of large-scale mixed media paintings depict conceptual ideas and iconic figures from various times in world history and popular culture. Influenced by popular culture, Bennett is continually drawn to the portrait, exploring various ways to manipulate and adorn his subjects.
Today, technological minds like Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Serge and Sergey Brin possess the power once held by the Mad Men of past. Our social world has affected global consumerism on a grand scale and ad agencies and social media "experts" are selling the notion that the purchasing power has returned to the people. Is it the dawn of a new day in global consumerism? Or, is personal choice still influenced by modern day marketing? Who's Gotcha!?! Knowledge Bennett explores this relationship between pop culture's iconic figures and target marketing. You make the decision.

We will be bringing you the exclusive preview of the Art Fashion Fusion Collaboration Exhibition (TBA at Gallery 212 Miami) between Knowledge Bennett and world-renowned artist and designer Carlos Falchi entitled "A 50-Year Retrospective Tribute to the Fashion Industry"
Art Fashion Fusion and World-renowned Couture Designer Carlos Falchi (Italy - Brazil) is the last remaining designer with remarkable couture line for over 47 years to continue to manufacture, from prototype to completion, entirely in New York City / Manhattan - Near 37th and 7th Ave. to be exact.
Carlos Falchi
Long before the current preoccupation with the
vibrancy of his native Brazil, Carlos was a long-standing icon of American
fashion design, with ten pieces in the Permanent Collection of the Metropolitan
Museum of Art. His hand-crafted designs have been worn by Miles Davis, Mick
Jagger, Tina Turner and Patti Smith among others, and his customers have
included everyone from Jacqueline Onassis to Mary J. Blige.
Using his skills at hand-painting, as well as
his palpable love for textures, his pieces have always blurred the line between
craft and art, and often have become favored personal statements for the people
who collected them. In both his bespoke and his more accessible work, Carlos is
one of the pioneers of “wearable art”.
Now his canvases and drawings pull a lifetime
of that experience into a new milieu; one that allows him to express his vision
in a more direct, visceral way. Each is a statement of a unique, playful and
independent spirit;
“Always I was pulled in two directions; so I
always put some of my art into my designs, whether it was collage, or
hand-painting. Plus, I want you to really feel and respect the materials.
That’s what I do with art, as well”. - Carlos
Falchi

Gallery 212 Miami welcomes KBG not only as like - minded and talented artists but in the spirit of support and comradery - devestated to hear the stories of Hurricane Sandy ravishing KBG's studios in Asbury Park, NJ, destroying priceless works of art and irreplaceable patterns and pieces that make up the life of an artist and a designer's 47-year career... Gallery 212 Miami loves the spirit of KBG to move up, out and especially to expand South with us at the ideal time of Art Basel Miami 2012 - to be proactive and continue to grab the art world by the horns - THE SHOW MUST GO ON!
Stay tuned for great things coming..
